Wekalet El Ghouri & Tanura Show Tour in Cairo

Price Starting From : $50

You and your family can enjoy a fun and culturally different experience at Al Ghori Agency and attend a dazzling tanoura show. You will be mesmerized by the exquisite Sufi dance in an 1100-year-old theater. The exquisite colors are unlike any other dance in the world, and your children will marvel at how the dancers do not get dizzy.

It is very important to know a brief part of the history of Wekalet Al-Ghuri is part of an architectural complex built at the end of the Mamluk period. Its importance is because it was built at the time of a Circassian Mamluk, Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Konsowa Al-Ghuri, who ruled Egypt from 1501 to 1516 and rose through his intelligence to rule Egypt, the last of the Mamluk sultans, and with the end of his era came the Ottoman invasion.
The band performs to the accompaniment of popular musical instruments (Rababa, Salamiya, Mezamar, Sajat, Tabla) and a popular minstrel who relies on spontaneity and religious chants to accompany the dance.

The Sufi Tanoura dance is characterized by a special character that is unique in its kind, as it relies on circular movements and stems from the Islamic Sufi sense, which has a philosophical and semantic basis that goes back to the Mawlawi concept that movement in the universe starts from a point and ends at the same point and that the movement is therefore circular, and when the Tanoura dancer (al-Lefif) revolves around himself, he is like the sun, and the dancers (al-Hanatieh) revolve around him as if they were the planets. Through the successive cycles, they symbolize the succession of the four seasons, as they rotate counter-clockwise, just like circumambulating the Kaaba, and when the Tanoura dancer (al-Lefif) raises his right hand from above and his left hand down, he makes the connection between the earth and the sky, and as he rotates around himself, it is as if he is getting rid of everything to ascend to the sky.

Wekalet El-Ghuri is part of an architectural complex that was constructed at the end of the Mamluk era. It is significant because it was built during the reign of Al-Ashraf Abu al-Nasr Konsowa al-Ghuri, a Circassian Mamluk who ruled Egypt from 1501 to 1516. He rose to power as the last Mamluk sultan, and the Ottoman invasion followed the end of his reign.

At Wekalet El Ghouri, you can enjoy a show performed by one of the agency's troupes, the Tanoura Troupe. It was formed in February 1988 at the Al-Ghoury Heritage Palace and performs regularly throughout the year. It also participated in all national occasions inside the Arab Republic of Egypt and participated in the foreign cultural exchange program and international festivals, and the troupe visited and presented its performances in Japan, the United States of America, Austria, Hungary, and Italy,...

Enjoy the stunning dervishes of the Egyptian traditional Tanoura dance show in Cairo at Wekalet El Ghuori. Wekalet El Ghori is an architecturally stunning arts center in the Al-Azhar district of central Cairo.

In your dance show, you will enjoy your eyes with the sight of circular movements, like the sun that illuminates the evening night, attracting the attention of the hypnotized audience to the dancer's beautiful movements, which show in her skirt a scene that evokes the words of the late great Salah Jahin with great lightness and dexterity.

Finally, after enjoying every moment of your excursion, we will take you back to the hotel.
