When you arrive at Cairo International Airport, an authorized tour guide from Cairo Top Tours will assist and greet you there and then will accompany you through your layover trip to Khan El Khalili Bazaar and Cairo Citadel in a private air-conditioned car.

Your day begins with an unforgettable visit to the Citadel of Saladin, one of the most important landmarks of Islamic Cairo and one of the most luxurious military castles built in the Middle Ages. Its strategic location atop Mokattam Mountain offered a magnificent view of all the landmarks of historic Cairo, and the impregnable walls that surrounded the capitals of Islamic Egypt with the castle provided further protection against siege. The history of the castle dates back to 572-579 AH / 1171-1193 AD, when Saladin began to build it on a site that was known as the aerial dome but did not complete it in his lifetime, and Sultan Al-Kamil ibn Al-Adel (604 / 1207 AD), who was the first sultan of the castle. C.), who was the first to live in it and took it as the king's house, and it remained the seat of the government of Egypt until the time of Khedive Ismail, who moved the seat of government to Abdeen Palace in the Khedive area of Cairo in the middle of the 19th century.

The site of Khan El Khalili today is located between Mashhad, Hussein Mosque and Al-Moez Street, and between the square and the street of Al-Azhar Mosque and the most prominent monuments of the Fatimid and Mamluk eras. It was located on the floor of the eastern palace of the Fatimid caliph al-Mu'izz Billah, where the tombs of the Fatimid caliphs are buried, known as “the saffron floor”. Prince Jaharkas al-Khalili destroyed these tombs and built in their place this khan in 1382 AD, which is still known by his name today.
