Full-Day Trip to Cairo from Aswan

The archaeological area of Saqqara is part of the necropolis of Manaf, which includes a large number of ancient Egyptian monuments, among them the step pyramid of King Djoser, the oldest huge stone structure in the history of the Third Dynasty, the pyramids of several kings of the 5th and 6th Dynasties, including the pyramid of King Unas, the first to have his burial chamber inscribed in the pyramid texts, kings and high officials of the 1st and 2nd Dynasties, and a huge group of tombs of high officials of the Old Kingdom. It also includes tombs dating from the time of the first transition, passing through the tombs of individuals from the Middle and New Kingdoms. The area also includes the tomb of the sacred calf Abyss (Serapeum can be optionally added), which continued to be used from the 18th Dynasty until the Ptolemaic period. The area also includes Coptic monuments, such as the Monastery of St. Jeremiah.

The idea to create it began in 1895, when the French architect Marcel Dorneo won the international competition to design the museum building, and the khedive Abbas Helmy II inaugurated it in 1902. In April 2021, the museum was the center of world attention when it bid farewell to 22 royal mummies to be transferred to its permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat in a solemn procession.
