In an air-conditioned vehicle, one of our experienced guides will pick you up at your Aswan hotel and take you on one of the most breathtaking Aswan excursions.
St. Simon, also known as the Canaanite and the Zealot, whose name Simeon is an Arabicization of his Hebrew-Aramaic name “Simeon,” a diminutive of the word “hearer,” is one of the twelve apostles of Christ and the most mysterious of them, as not much was written about him in Christian literature in the first centuries of Christendom.
Your day begins with a historic visit to the Monastery of St. Simeon in Aswan, one of the most significant Coptic monasteries in history. It was founded before the sixth century AD and was restored in the tenth century. It housed numerous monks as Christianity spread throughout the Nubian kingdoms, and it still has inscribed and illustrated images of Christ and the saints on its walls.
Our expert guide will explain everything to you in detail, and during our excursion you will have the opportunity to know that Aswan is home to the historic Coptic Orthodox monasteries, including the Monastery of St. Simeon. As a sixth-century Coptic monastery, it is among the biggest in the world. Originally known as the "Monastery of Bishop Hadra," the monastery was abandoned and left untended for a number of years after it was constructed because of a shortage of water.
After finishing your excursion, we will return you back to your hotel in Aswan.
