Let our prestigious Egyptologist be your best guide on this rare itinerary: departing Cairo at 7:00 AM on a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, the road trip leads northwest towards the northernmost oasis of Egypt, Bahariya. Undoubtedly, it will be an extraordinary four hours of charming landscape, dotted with stops in between for refreshments, across the magnificent sand sea of the Western Desert.
With an arrival in Bahariya Oasis, we switch to a Land Cruiser with four-wheel drive for challenging hours ahead through Wild Desert heading to the spectacularness of the White Desert with its fascinating geological features. This protected area consists of bizarrely shaped rock formations, ancient tombs, caves, and Roman constructions. It is also home to endemic flora and fauna.
Among the highlights would have been a visit to the Black Desert, a dark rocky region birthed from ancient volcanic activity and rich in iron ores. Onward to the Valley of El Haize, where you can stop to enjoy the natural hot springs.
Now it is time for the famed Crystal Mountains, littered with quartz crystals, followed by the magnificent Valley of Agabat or Valley of Wonders, where you can try out sand boarding down the gigantic dunes.
A delicious picnic lunch waits for you in the Roman spring of Ain Khadra, right by the White Desert; while exploring this breathtaking landscape, marvel at the unique chalk and limestone formations, sculpted through centuries of natural erosion into fascinating shapes resembling mushrooms, trees, and even a sphinx-like rock.
Before making your way towards Cairo, you will pass the picturesque dazzling tent-shaped rocky formations, one last sight to behold. From here, you make your way to the Bahariya Oasis for a laid-back day where you can kick back beneath palms and among fruit fields before returning to Cairo at night.
