As the sun rises on the banks of the Nile in Luxor, we begin our enchanting journey to Aswan and Abu Simbel, where every stone and every wave of the Nile tells the story of an ancient civilization. From the ancient temples of the Pharaohs in Aswan to the splendor of the temple of Abu Simbel, carved into the heart of the mountain.

With our two-day tour, you will have the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful cities in Egypt. Aswan was known as “Sonu” in ancient Egypt, meaning market, as it was a trading center for caravans going to and from Nubia. In Ptolemaic times it was called “Sin” and the Nubians “Yaba Swan.". It was also known as the Land of Gold because it served as a great treasury or tomb for the Nubian kings who lived there for thousands of years. Before the migration, Aswan's borders stretched from Asna in the east to the borders of Sudan in the south, and its population was Nubian, but after the Islamic conquest of Nubia, some Arab tribes settled there.

Also, the city of Aswan and its surroundings are considered a tourist and archaeological area, where the number of foreign tourists is increasing, especially from Europe and East Asia, and among its most important tourist attractions are the High Dam, the Philae temple, and the unfinished obelisk.

Itinerary

A Cairo Top Tours representative will be waiting for you at your hotel in Luxor to start your two-day adventure by transferring you from your hotel in a private air-conditioned car to Aswan, where you can immerse yourself in the early civilization of the Pharaohs.

Your day will start with an incredible visit to the Aswan High Dam, which is a hydroelectric dam on the Nile River in southern Egypt, built during the reign of Gamal Abdel Nasser and to whose construction the Soviet Union contributed. Owned and operated by the Aswan High Dam and Reservoir General Authority, the dam has helped control water flow and mitigate the effects of Nile floods. It is used to generate electricity in Egypt.

After that, we will explore the Temple of Philae, This temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, which was flooded by the waters of the Nile, was divided and reassembled in a new location on the island of Agilika, about 500 meters from its original site on the island of Philae, and its buildings include a temple to Hathor and a night show of light and sound presented in different languages.

Finally, we conclude our excursion with the visit of the Unfinished Ublisk. It is a pink granite obelisk in Aswan, Egypt. It is found in the northern part of a quarry there, located near Aswan on the eastern shore of the Nile, about 1 kilometer east of the Nile River, and it is believed that it was during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut that work on the obelisk began, with the intention of placing it in the Karnak Temple in Luxor. After ancient Egyptian workers excavated the obelisk from three sides in preparation for removing it from the pavement and completing its installation, they discovered a crack in it that made it unsuitable. The workers stopped completing it.

The knowledgeable guide will go into great detail about the Abu Simbel Temples' history. which is an archaeological site located on the west bank of Lake Nasser about 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is one of the “Nubian ruins” sites included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. Which starts from the direction of the river flow from Abu Simbel to Philae (near Aswan).

One of the largest temples in all of ancient Egypt, Abu Simbel, was constructed in the thirteenth century BC by King Ramses II to commemorate his victories in the battle of Kadesh and to show off his power as pharaoh of Egypt. Southern Egypt, near the Sudanese border, is home to the two massive temples carved into the mountain, one honoring Ramses II and the other to his wife, Queen Nefertari.

You will also have the opportunity to learn that the main temple features an imposing façade with four giant statues of Ramses II, each about 20 meters high, flanking the entrance to the temple, which leads to interior rooms decorated with inscriptions describing the pharaoh's victories and the events of his time. The temple of Nefertari is characterized by its façade, which includes six huge statues, four of the king and two of the queen, in a unique expression of her special status.

If you are interested in exploring the magic of the Temple of Abu Simbel, it is so important to attend one of the major astronomical phenomena of the temple, the Holy of Holies, which is celebrated twice a year, on October 22 and February 22, when the sun's rays illuminate the statues of the gods inside, reflecting the mastery of astronomy and geometry of the ancient Egyptians.
