In the early evening, we will start the next day on our excursion from Cairo to St. Catherine by preparing to ascend Mount Moses at 10:00 a.m. or earlier, where you will be accompanied by a very experienced local Bedouin guide. This night hike takes us on a unique journey under a starry sky in a magical spiritual experience, accompanied by the majestic silence of the desert and the stillness of the mountains. After climbing some 750 steps on the final stretch of the route, visitors reach the top of the mountain as dawn approaches, witnessing one of the most spectacular sunrises in the world, with the first rays of the sun illuminating the surrounding peaks in an unforgettable spectacle.
Then, descending from the mountain, on the Sinai Peninsula, at the base of Mount Catherine, at the mouth of a ravine, we will travel to St. Catherine's Monastery, an Eastern Orthodox monastery. The highest mountain in Egypt, near the city of St. Catherine, named after Catherine of Alexandria. As the world's oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery, it is a popular tourist destination that welcomes tour groups from all over the globe. It is a place of retreat, administered by the abbot, the Bishop of Sinai, who is not under the authority of any patriarch or holy council, but maintains close ties with the Patriarch of Jerusalem, so that at masses the name of the Patriarch of Jerusalem is mentioned, although for long periods the monastery has been under the guardianship of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Within the monastery, you will witness the Cathedral of Transfiguration, constructed by Emperor Justinian, and the Burning Bush, encircled by a little chapel constructed by Queen Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine.
Finally, we will transfer you back to your hotel in Cairo.
Breakfast meal included.
